YouTube Stop Support WebM
I used to watch videos on YouTube with Firefox, but as the number of advertisements keeps increasing, I resort to uBlock Origin extension, which turns out amazing. However, since last quarter, 100% CPU utilisation occurred while playing videos, leaving me no choice but to download videos, then watch locally using yt-dlp.
At first, I preferred the WebM format because, unlike the M3U8 format (which consists of many small file segments), WebM offers a whole trunk file, making downloads faster while avoiding the overhead.
Unluckily, starting last week, YouTube seems to have stopped supporting the WebM format, both for newly uploaded videos and older ones. Perhaps WebM is the latest victim on the KilledByGoogle list.
